Hazel Dell, WA Solar Installers: Solar Panel Installation Since 2010

Sunbridge Solar installs home solar in Hazel Dell, which is unincorporated Clark County. We pull the Clark County solar permit and the Washington L&I electrical permit, file the Clark PUD interconnection, and put the panels on in two to three days.

Who installs solar in Hazel Dell, WA?

Sunbridge Solar does. We are a Clark County company, not a national sales operation that subcontracts the roof work, and the streets between Highway 99 and I-5 are some of the ones we know best.

Which parts of Hazel Dell do you serve?

All of them. Hazel Dell is not a city, it is unincorporated Clark County with a Vancouver mailing address, so the one thing that changes from one street to the next is who issues your permit. For almost every Hazel Dell address that is Clark County, with Washington L&I handling the electrical permit. A few Vancouver-addressed streets along the south edge are inside Vancouver city limits, where the City issues both permits. We check the address before we quote so there are no surprises.

Is your Hazel Dell home a good candidate for solar?

Most Hazel Dell homes are. Four things decide it: the roof (its direction, its pitch and how much life it has left) the shade on it, the size of your electrical service, and how much power you actually use. None of them depend on your zip code, and all four get checked on the first visit, before anyone talks about price.

Usually a yes

What we look for

Still worth a look

None of these is an automatic no

The only way to know for certain is to have someone look. We map a year of shade, check the service panel, size the system to your own Clark PUD bills rather than to the roof, and put a written number in front of you. No charge and no obligation.

What does a solar installer charge in Hazel Dell?

The price depends on system size, your roof and whether you add a battery, not on your zip code. Hazel Dell homes tend to be a little smaller than the newer subdivisions to the north, so many of them land in the middle of the 4 to 10 kilowatts we install most; a house with a heat pump or an EV in the driveway pushes toward the top of that range. Two things keep a Hazel Dell quote simple:

1

No sales tax on the system or the labor

Washington exempts 100% of state and local sales tax on solar systems up to 100 kW, including installation labor, through 2029 (RCW 82.08.962). One exemption certificate at purchase, filed by us.

2

No rebate to chase

Clark Public Utilities does not offer a solar rebate and Washington has no state credit, so the number on the quote is the number you pay. The federal residential credit ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. See what changed.

What permits does a Hazel Dell solar install need?

Two: a solar permit from Clark County and an electrical permit from Washington L&I. Clark County requires the application to go in online through its Land Management System, and we prepare and submit the package.

Clark County solar (SOL) permit

What we submit through the county’s online system

In our experience, Clark County issues a residential solar permit in about two to six weeks, most often around four. Permit Center: 1300 Franklin Street, Vancouver, we deal with them, not you.

Washington L&I electrical permit

Clark County does not issue electrical permits

Inside Vancouver city limits? A few Hazel Dell-area streets are. There the City of Vancouver issues both permits, with over-the-counter checklists for standard rooftop systems. Either way, the paperwork is ours.

How does Clark Public Utilities net metering work in Hazel Dell?

Every home in Hazel Dell is on Clark Public Utilities, and the PUD net-meters systems up to 100 kW. The power you send to the grid is banked as kilowatt-hour credits against your own later use; the summer surplus carries you through the dark months.

Why we size to your usage, not your roof

The March 31 reset changes the math

Surplus you bank in July is worth full value in January, but anything still unused on March 31 goes to the utility without compensation. So we size a Hazel Dell system to a year of your actual bills rather than to every square foot of south-facing roof. An oversized array looks impressive and gives value back to the PUD.

Our post on Washington net metering explains the math.

Does solar work on an older Hazel Dell roof?

Usually, yes, and Hazel Dell is where we look hardest at the house itself before we talk about panels. Much of the neighborhood was built between the 1950s and the 1970s, and that changes two things about the design.

The roof

A solar array should outlast the roof it sits on

If your shingles have less than ten years left, we tell you so before we quote, because re-roofing under a finished array costs more than doing it first. Where the roof is sound, the low-pitched ranch and split-level roofs common in Hazel Dell are among the easiest we work on.

The electrical panel

The first thing our electrician checks

Many older homes here still have a 100-amp panel, sometimes with a brand of breaker box that is no longer supported. We check the panel and the service on the first visit, and if it needs an upgrade before it can take solar, or a battery, or an EV charger. That goes on the quote in writing, not as a surprise mid-install. Our own electricians do the work.

Panels run on daylight, not heat. A cool, bright Hazel Dell afternoon is a good solar afternoon, and the rain keeps the panels clean.

How long does a Hazel Dell solar install take, start to finish?

The panels go on in two to three days. Start to finish, from first call to switch-on, plan on eight to twelve weeks.

1

Consultation, design and a written quote

Your roof, your electrical panel, your shading and a year of your electric bills, then system size, equipment, warranty terms and price on one page.

2

Permits, install and inspection

The Clark County solar permit plus the L&I electrical permit, then two to three days on site, then the electrical inspection.

3

Utility interconnection and switch-on

Clark PUD’s four-working-day review and the meter swap within about five working days after that. Then you switch it on.

How does Sunbridge Solar compare to a national solar company in Hazel Dell?

The panels are the same. What differs is who does the work. Most national companies that advertise in Hazel Dell sell the system and subcontract the roof and the wiring, so the people who quote the job are not the people who install it. Sunbridge Solar designs, permits and installs with our own crew, under our own Washington electrical license.

Checking a national quote

Four things worth confirming in writing

How do I choose among solar companies in Hazel Dell?

Hazel Dell sits right on I-5, so it gets pitched by every solar company between Portland and Seattle, and some of the national ones sell here and subcontract the roof work. Four questions separate them quickly.

1

Are you licensed, and can I check?

Every Washington contractor has an L&I registration number and an electrical license number. Ours are SUNBRSL882NF and SUNBRSL857CK.

2

Who does the roof work?

Ask whether the crew on your roof works for the company on the contract. Ours does, and it drives here from Washougal.

3

What are the two warranties?

Workmanship and product are different things. Get both in writing, with the years.

4

How did you size this?

Clark PUD credits reset every March 31, so an oversized system gives value back to the utility. An installer who pushes a bigger array than your bills support is selling panels, not savings.

Hazel Dell solar FAQs

The questions Hazel Dell homeowners ask us most, answered plainly.

It depends on system size, roof type and whether you add a battery, so we quote every home individually. There is no sales tax on the equipment or labor for systems up to 100 kW through 2029, and no rebate to apply for afterward. Our Clark County solar cost guide breaks cost down by system size.

For most homes with a reasonably clear south-, east- or west-facing roof, yes. On an older Hazel Dell house the roof’s remaining life and the electrical panel decide more than the weather does, so we check both before we answer for your home. Our Washington solar guide covers what to expect.

Yes. Hazel Dell is unincorporated Clark County, so the solar permit comes from Clark County and the electrical permit from Washington L&I. If your address is inside Vancouver city limits, the City issues both. We prepare and submit all of it.

Sometimes. Many Hazel Dell homes built before 1980 have a 100-amp panel, which can limit the size of the system, and a battery or EV charger adds more load. We check on the first visit and price any upgrade in writing.

Not in cash, in kilowatt-hour credits at full value against your own later use, banked until the March 31 reset. The interconnection application is usually processed within four working days.

Yes. Battery backup for outages and a Level 2 EV charger can go in alongside the solar, with the panel and wiring sized so the three work together.

The panels are the same; the crew is not. We design, permit and install with our own crew under our own Washington electrical license (SUNBRSL857CK), pull the Clark County solar permit and the L&I electrical permit ourselves and file the Clark PUD interconnection, and answer the warranty call from our shop in Washougal. Before you sign with anyone, confirm whose crew will be on the roof and whose license the permit is pulled under.

Two to three days on your roof. Start to finish, including permits and the utility’s meter swap, plan on eight to twelve weeks.
