Q CELLS is the panel we specify most often when someone wants a strong, well-supported, American-assembled module without paying the premium the top tier asks for. It is not the flashiest choice on our list. It is frequently the most sensible one.

The current lineup

Q.TRON BLK M-G2+ — the current flagship

The older Q.PEAK DUO BLK ML-G10+ line is still sold alongside it at lower efficiency. If you are quoted Q CELLS, it is worth confirming which of the two you are actually getting, because they are different generations of cell technology at different price points.

The American manufacturing story, told properly

This is where Q CELLS has done something few others have. Modules are assembled at Dalton, Georgia, and in 2026 the company’s Cartersville, Georgia facility began producing solar cells as well — making it a vertically integrated US solar factory rather than an assembly operation importing cells.

That distinction matters if domestic manufacturing is part of why you are buying. Plenty of panels described as American-made are assembled here from imported cells. This is a step further than that. Silfab assembles modules in Burlington, Washington, which is closer to home; Q CELLS goes deeper in the supply chain.

How Q.TRON performs on a Pacific Northwest roof

At -0.29%/°C the Q.TRON is level with Silfab’s Prime line and slightly behind REC’s heterojunction cells at -0.24%/°C. On a typical Vancouver, Camas or Portland roof at valley elevation that difference is small. It grows on a hot south-facing roof, and it is worth weighing in the Gorge corridor where July genuinely bakes.

The more useful point for this climate is n-type construction. N-type cells are less susceptible to the light-induced degradation that affected older p-type panels, which is a difference measured across decades rather than seasons — and a solar array in this region is a thirty-year object.

Q CELLS markets “all-weather technology” and good low-light behaviour. We will report that as the marketing claim it is: we did not find published low-light curve data to back a specific number, so treat it as a reasonable design intent rather than a measured advantage over the alternatives.

Company health, because you should ask

Q CELLS had a genuinely turbulent 2026. Its parent, Hanwha Solutions, hit a debt crisis early in the year serious enough to trigger a loan default event, and responded with a large rights offering announced in April 2026. By the second quarter the picture had reversed sharply: revenue up roughly 47% year over year, operating profit up substantially, and a return to net profit.

The turnaround was driven in large part by US tariffs on imported modules making domestically produced panels considerably more competitive, plus manufacturing credit revenue from the Georgia complex. In other words, the same policy environment that makes Q CELLS attractive to buy is what pulled the company out of trouble.

Our read: real stress earlier in 2026, materially recovered by mid-year, and no indication of warranty support being at risk. Not a company in crisis, but not one without a recent scare either.

Where we would specify Q CELLS

Good fit

  • Most standard residential roofs in Clark County and the Portland metro, where it delivers the great majority of the outcome at a lower price than the premium options.
  • Buyers who want US manufacturing with cells as well as modules made domestically.
  • Larger arrays, where the per-panel price difference against the premium tier adds up quickly.

Consider something else

  • Genuinely hot, unshaded south-facing roofs, where REC’s flatter temperature coefficient earns its premium.
  • Very limited roof area, where the highest efficiency per square metre changes what fits.
  • Buyers who want the longest warranty — Silfab’s 30-year performance term is five years longer.

And the point worth repeating: on a shaded Clark County lot, the difference between these three panels is smaller than the difference a Douglas fir makes. Solve the shading question first.
