LG Solar Panels: An Owner’s Guide for 2026

LG stopped making solar panels in 2022 but still honours existing warranties. How to claim, what to watch on an ageing PNW array, and what to install now.

Table of Contents

2026 equipment update. LG left the solar panel business in 2022 and no longer makes or sells panels. LG has said it will continue to honour the limited warranties on panels already sold. If you own LG panels, the section at the end explains how a claim works now. The review below is kept as a record of how these panels performed.

Power to Choose

LG Solar gives you the power to choose. Whether you’re looking to add to your existing system or maximize your solar output, all of our reliable modules are backed by one of the strongest warranty programs in the industry.

Enhanced Performance Warranty

LG offers a 25-year product warranty for LG NeON® R, including labor, in addition to an enhanced performance warranty. After 25 years, LG NeON® R is guaranteed to produce at least 88.4% of its initial power output.

Roof Aesthetics

LG NeON® R has been designed with aesthetics in mind: the lack of any electrodes on the front creates an improved, modern aesthetic.

Can you still buy LG solar panels in 2026?

No. LG announced on February 22, 2022 that it was leaving the solar panel business, and wound down production at its Huntsville, Alabama plant through the second quarter of that year. There is no route to a new LG panel.

The exit was voluntary rather than a collapse, which matters for owners. LG did not go bankrupt and its warranty obligations were not sold, transferred or abandoned to a successor company.

What happens to a 25-year LG warranty

LG stated at the time of the exit, and still states on its own notice page, that it will continue to honour the limited warranty on panels already sold, in line with its contractual obligations. No third party has taken over administration. LG Electronics remains the named obligor.

How to make a claim

  • Start with the company that installed your system. They hold the install date, the serial numbers and the commissioning data, and a claim without those is slow.
  • Then LG support on 1-833-388-2121, which is the escalation route LG directs customers to.
  • Have your proof of purchase and installation date ready. On a warranty running to 2040-something, the paperwork is the claim.

One honest caveat: we can tell you what LG has committed to in writing. We cannot tell you how smoothly claims are running four years after the exit, because that is not something anyone publishes reliably. Treat the written commitment as real and your documentation as the thing that protects you.

How LG panels have held up on Pacific Northwest roofs

LG NeON panels were a common premium choice in Portland and Clark County in the late 2010s, and they were a sound one. Two things about them suited this region specifically.

The n-type cell design was less prone to light-induced degradation than the p-type panels it competed with, which is a slow-burn advantage that only shows up a decade in, roughly now, for most of the LG arrays around here. And the panels carried a better temperature coefficient than typical panels of their era, which matters more in this region than people expect. Our summers are not Arizona, but a south-facing Camas roof in a July heat dome gets hot enough for the difference to show.

What to watch on an ageing LG array here

  • Moss and soiling on low-pitch roofs. The wet season does most of the cleaning on a steep roof. On a shallow pitch under trees, moss creeps up from the shingle line onto the frame and then the glass.
  • Tree growth. Nine years of Douglas fir growth changes a shade study completely. This is the most common cause of “my panels are getting worse” in our service area.
  • Wildfire smoke. Late-summer smoke has cut regional output measurably in recent years. A weak August is not a warranty matter.
  • Backsheet and junction box condition. Worth a look at the ten-year mark on any array, LG or otherwise, particularly on the exposed south and west edges.

If a panel needs replacing

Identical replacement is not possible on a discontinued line, so a comparable current module is the normal outcome. If your system uses microinverters or optimisers, mixing a replacement module in is straightforward. On an older string setup it needs checking first, because a mismatched module can drag a whole string.

What we would install instead today

If you are replacing or expanding rather than repairing, the panels we point people to now are Q CELLS, REC and Silfab. Each is still manufacturing, each has a current warranty backed by a company that exists, and Silfab assembles modules in Burlington, Washington, about as local as a solar panel gets.

If you own this equipment and need help: start with the company that installed it, then the warranty administrator named above. They hold the records a claim needs. If Sunbridge Solar installed your system, call us on 360-313-7190 or send us a message and we will handle it from our end.

Does LG still make solar panels?

No. LG announced its exit from solar panel manufacturing in February 2022 and ended production that year. Panels are no longer available new.

Will LG still honour my solar panel warranty?

LG has stated, both in its 2022 announcement and on its current notice page, that it will continue to honour the limited warranty on panels already sold. Contact your installer first, then LG support on 1-833-388-2121.

Are LG solar panels still good?

The panels themselves were a strong product and continue to perform normally. LG leaving the market was a business decision about margins, not a reflection of a fault in the panels.

What happens if an LG panel fails now?

You would normally receive a comparable current panel rather than an identical LG module. On systems with microinverters or optimisers that is straightforward; on an older string inverter it needs checking first.

My LG system produces less than it used to. Why?

In the Pacific Northwest the usual causes are tree growth, moss on a low-pitch roof, a failed inverter component, or summer wildfire smoke — well before genuine panel degradation.

Should I replace working LG panels?

No. Replacing panels that are producing well rarely pays. The sensible moment to reconsider is when the roof needs replacing anyway, or when you are adding capacity or a battery.
