Lighting Project Example Costs

On a recent project, our customer had an annual energy usage of about 80,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh). At first, their plan was to install 80 kilowatts (kW) solar panel system to try and offset 100% of their usage. We suggested a lighting audit and determined that by upgrading all of their lightings to LED they could offset more than 50% of their usage.

Now, with their projected usage at 36,000 kWh per year, only a 36 kW solar panel system was needed to allow them to become net zero saving them tens of thousands of dollars on upfront cost. On average it is 6 times more cost effective from an energy savings perspective to invest in energy efficiency compared to energy generation.
